Personal protective equipment, commonly referred to as "PPE", is equipment worn to minimize exposure to hazards that cause serious workplace injuries and illnesses. Personal protective equipment may include items such as gloves, safety glasses and shoes, earplugs or muffs, hard hats, respirators, or coveralls, vests and full body suits.
Wearing PPE can go a long way in protecting us from some of the risks associated with exposure to surgical, biological, chemical, radiological, or other workplace hazards, especially in the operating room.
Safety Helmets: Protect the head from impacts, falling objects, and electrical hazards. They are commonly used in construction, mining, and other high-risk industries.
Safety Glasses or Goggles: Shield the eyes from flying debris, chemicals, and other hazardous substances. They are important in environments where eye protection is needed, such as laboratories and construction sites.
Hearing Protection: Includes earplugs and earmuffs that protect against noise-induced hearing loss. Essential in noisy environments like factories or during loud machinery operation.
Protective Gloves: Used to protect the hands from cuts, abrasions, chemicals, and heat. Different types of gloves are used depending on the specific hazards present.
Respirators: Provide protection against inhaling harmful substances, including dust, fumes, and chemicals. They are crucial in environments with airborne contaminants.
